familyman Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 :D has anybody come up with an easier way of changing the reversing light switch? i followed the directions in the haynes manual, but judging by the photos the gearbox was out of the car -making it VERY easy,i even toyed with the idea of taking the battery tray out to give better access , has anybody any ideas ? :D Quote
NikpV Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 battery tray be careful - doesn't gearbox or engine mount on one of the bolts here - :D Quote
familyman Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006 :D that would explain the rather substancial bolts on the battery tray :D Quote
bigdaddy Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 You could put a trolley jack under the gearbox to support it, then remove the battery tray :D Quote
familyman Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006  typical ford nothing is easy  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 We have had severe problems before from someone who took the battery tray out - don't do it! Can require drastic surgery to prop the gearbox back up ..... Quote
sepulchrave Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 I think you'll find that you'll need a Cut-Kwik or perhaps an Oxy-Acetylene torch to remove the Battery tray. It is possible to replace the switch by lying directly underneath the the car and doing it by feel, you'll need strong fingers and tons of patience though, buy the new one first so you can get to know it by touch! :16: Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 the battery tray is held in place by the engine/gearbox mount bolts! when you undo these the gearbox will drop as to not allow the bolts to reach as thy are not long enoughnow! i supported the gear box from below and repaced a coulpe of the bolts with lengths of threaded rod incase it dropped! the theory being that by running nuts down the threaded rods I could pull the gearbox up and back into place :16: Quote
sepulchrave Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 What about powertrain alignment... how did you accomplish that? Are you sure that it isn't the other way round... As in, it's the battery tray that is supporting the entire gearbox and engine on the n/s! Quote
